Forty-two million low-income Americans rely on food stamps from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to buy groceries. Amid the longest government shutdown in US history, many are turning to food banks.

Food banks across the United States are under pressure due to the longest government shutdown in US history, which has delayed benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

This has left many struggling families who rely on food stamps in a difficult situation.

A federal court ruling briefly offered hope when it ordered the Trump administration to release funds, but the Supreme Court later paused it.

While Democratic and Republican politicians on Capitol Hill trade blame, the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington is bracing for a 20% surge in demand.
