US indicts Cuba's Raul Castro over deadly 1996 plane attack

The Justice Department has alleged that the 94-year-old younger brother of Fidel Castro played a leading role in the decision to shoot down two US aircraft in 1996, killing four people.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the charges in Miami. The move marks a sharp escalation in tensions between the US and Cuba, adding pressure on the Caribbean island's Russia-aligned leadership amid deep economic and political turmoil.
