A jury ruled that Meta knowingly harmed children's mental health and hid child‑exploitation risks. The company behind Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram was fined $375 million. Meta plans to appeal.

The jury also found thousands of violations across Meta's platforms, adding up to a fine of $375 million fine, though the sum fell far short of what prosecutors had sought.

Prosecutors argue that Meta put profits ahead of children's safety, while the company says it works hard to protect young users. The case is part of a growing wave of US litigation over social media's impact.
