US-President Barack Obama begins a landmark visit to Ghana

US president Barak Obama is beginning a trip to Ghana on his first visit to sub-saharan Africa since taking office. He said he chose to visit Ghana because it was an example of a vibrant democracy, and - as such - defied stereotypes often associated with Africa. Obama is expected to address the topic of good governance during his 24 hour stay. He will also visit a former slave castle together with his wife and children.
