Sean "Diddy" Combs was on Friday sentenced to 50 months in prison over the US rapper's conviction on prostitution-related charges.

"Diddy" was convicted over sexual encounters, capping a sordid federal case that featured
harrowing testimony and ended in a forceful reckoning for one of the world's most well-known hip-hop figures.

The 55-year-old was also fined $500,000 (€426,000).

Addressing the victims who testified during Combs' trial, District Judge Arun Subramanian said: "We heard you."

"These were serious offenses that irreparably harmed two women," Subramanian said. "The court is not assured that if released these crimes will not be committed again."

Subramanian told Combs to "make the most of your second chance."

Combs says he's 'truly sorry'

In July, a jury in New York found the music mogul guilty of prostitution-related offenses but acquitted him of racketeering and sex trafficking.

Tearfully addressing the court before the judge handed down the sentence on Friday, Combs said he was "truly sorry."

"I ask your honor for mercy," he said. "I beg your honor for mercy."

He apologized to his victims, saying his conduct was "disgusting, shameful and sick."

"I was sick. Sick from the drugs, I was out of control. I needed help but I didn't get the help," Combs added.
