A man carrying a rifle and a gas can has been shot dead by US Secret Service Agents as he tried to enter the Florida residence of US President Donald Trump. The president was at the White House at the time.

A man in his early 20s, armed with a shotgun and carrying a fuel can, was shot dead after attempting to enter US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence through its north gate at around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Secret Service agents and a local deputy opened fire when the intruder raised his weapon. The FBI is investigating and has urged residents to check security footage.

The incident follows previous security threats against Trump, including the 2024 rally shooting and a later assassination attempt in Florida.
