The US has issued a month‑long waiver allowing countries to buy sanctioned Russian oil already at sea, easing pressure on tight global markets amid the Iran war. Energy expert Robin Mills says Russia is the clear beneficiary, as higher oil prices, looser sanctions and rising export volumes have doubled Moscow’s oil revenues. Critics warn the move signals weaker US sanctions enforcement and undermines efforts to limit funding for Russia’s war on Ukraine.
