USA and Turkey: A difficult relationship

Barack Obama's being greeted in Turkey with a fervor similar to the one shown him on the other stages of his trip -- despite the fact that many Turks say they mistrust America as a country. Polls show antipathy among most Turks for Washington. Obama's personal popularity derives from a sense that, as a man who grew up partly in Muslim Indonesia, as a man whose middle name is that of the prophet's grandson, he is serious when he vows to reach out to the Muslim world.
