At this time of year, it can still be quite cool on Usedom. But if you're warmly bundled up, the off-season is the perfect time to explore the Baltic Sea island.

Usedom

The architecture of the imperial spas of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin make for colorful walks along the promenade. Or you can take a bicycle tour to the interior. The Achterwasser, a large bay separating the island from the mainland, offers glorious scenery in the off-season. In northern Usedom lies Peenemünde, a village with a unique history. It was here that the Nazis developed the infamous V-2 rocket. Today a museum offers a critical view of the test site's role in World War Two. And for if you're really seeking peace and quiet, there's Lieper Winkel, where nature rules and there's little sign of tourists.
