Using forests to protect the climate

The earth’s rainforests provide a host of vital benefits - they serve as carbon sinks, provide oxygen and serve as habitats for a wide variety of species. But in many regions around the world, deforestation, poaching and wildfires have taken a heavy toll on rich forest land. In Indonesia, the country’s treasured rainforests are rapidly disappearing. Next week on Global Ideas, we explore the different ways environmentalists and policymakers are trying to prevent further destruction and restore the rainforests to their former glory.
