The United States is stepping up its military presence in the Caribbean by ordering its most advanced aircraft carrier into the region. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has accused the US of using drug trafficking claims to "fabricate a war" in Latin America.

The US has intensified its anti-drug operations in the Caribbean, reportedly killing at least 40 people, including Trinidadian fisherman Rishi Samaroo.

Now, Washington is deploying the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier to the region.

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has called the move "imperial aggression," warning of a new war in Latin America reminiscent of past US interventions.
