The World Health Organisation says the e-coli bacteria which has killed 17 people is a new strain which has never been seen before. The outbreak - centred in northern Germany - has left more than 1500 people ill - many of them seriously. In the last few hours Russia has banned the import of all raw vegetables from the European Union - a move the EU has criticized as disproportionate. Authorities here are struggling to find the source of the outbreak.
