The storm crashed into the provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, and the city of Da Nang with windspeeds of 150 kilometers an hour, hitting a region already reeling from more than a week of deadly flooding and record rains.

Typhoon Kalmaegi has slammed into Vietnam's central provinces with strong winds, forcing mass evacuations and shutting down six airports.

Coastal cities like Da Nang rushed to secure boats as flooding and landslide warnings spread.

The storm has uprooted trees, damaged homes, and left three fishermen missing.

Over 260,000 soldiers are on standby for relief efforts in what is one of the region's strongest storms this season.
