Vogts Rules Himself Out of Klinsi Revolution
May 6, 2005Former Germany coach Berti Vogts will not be returning to the national team set-up despite current coach Jürgen Klinsmann lobbying for his former boss to take over the role of technical director currently held by Michael Skibbe. Vogts ruled himself after the German Football Association (DFB) refused to make a quick decision on the appointment, saying "The DFB's timing does not fit with mine." Klinsmann had called for Vogts to be appointed immediately but the DFB said it would wait until after next month's Confederations Cup before creating the post. Klinsmann gave his approval for the return of Vogts earlier this year, saying his experience would boost Germany's bid for a home triumph at the 2006 World Cup. "It's sad that we can't get Berti into this very important position," Klinsmann said this week. Vogts coached a Germany side that included Klinsmann and his right-hand man Oliver Bierhoff to victory in the 1996 European Championship.
