Syria's civil war is causing enormous damage to the country's cultural heritage. Historic buildings have been bombed to rubble, archaeological sites have been plundered and artifacts stolen. The city of Aleppo has been hit especially hard. An archaeologist of Syrian heritage living in Germany has published a book documenting the scale of the destruction.
