Though separatist leaders had called for an election boycott, officials say the seven-phase elections registered more than 60 percent polling overall.

The results are expected to be announced on Sunday. One of the key players in the elections is former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

His National Conference (NC) party has ruled the state for about three decades.
