Australian Mark Webber won the British Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday for Red Bull, beating out Ferrari's Fernando Alonso of Spain.

Webber started alongside Alonso, who was in the pole position, steering his way through 52 laps to eventually finish three seconds ahead of the Ferrari driver. The Australian overtook Alonso in lap 49 to claim his second Silverstone win in three years. It's Webber's second victory of the season after his win in Monaco.

"Another great day for us and great day for me to win here again. It is fantastic," Webber said over his team radio.

"I don't think I've had a win when I've got victory so late in the race. I don't think Fernando had the right balance at the end of the race, but that can happen to any one of us," he added.

But Alonso's second place finish still enabled him to stay on top of the driver standings with 129 points, 13 ahead of Webber's 116 points.

Webber's Red Bull teammate, German world champion Sebastian Vettel, came in third place. Vettel has 100 points in the driver standings.
