'New champions' and China growth in focus of WEF meeting

Known as "Summer Davos," the WEF meeting in Tianjin has set a post-pandemic record of more than 1,700 participants, who discussed topics such as new energy and materials, the global economy and China's economic outlook.

At the 2025 World Economic Forum in Tianjin, China pledged to shift from export-led growth to a consumption-driven economy, but faces skepticism amid overinvestment and weak consumer confidence.

Despite a 6% retail sales boost in May, the rebound leans on short-term fixes, raising doubts about long-term stability once U.S. tariff relief ends.
