Welcome to eco@africa
November 24, 2017On this week's eco@africa, we meet inspiring people working to help the environment across Europe and Africa.
First we stop off in Tunisia to check out the companies, including a brewery, taking a hands-on approach to reducing energy consumption.
After that, we make our way to Berlin where clean, green rickshaw-style taxis with electric motors transport locals and tourists alike. The City Cruiser bikes can now be found in many cities worldwide.
Then we head back to take it to Africa where we visit a Nigerian ranch giving endangered drills monkeys a second chance. And during a stopover in Tanzania, we talk to some entrepreneurs using a waste product in an unusual way. Dunia Designs turns plastic into stylish furniture.
Our top story this week comes from Uganda. There a conservation group is trying to get locals on board to protect their big cat neighbors. It's a tough sell, as the lions sometimes kill farmers' livestock — can it work?
Finally we head to Kenya to meet another group of entrepreneurs. This company is trying to halt water pollution and deforestation using poop.
