Whale 'Timmy' found dead near Danish island

Rescuers in Germany fought for weeks to save a stranded humpback whale named "Timmy." Now, just two weeks after its release into the North Sea, the animal has been found dead off Denmark’s coast, authorities confirmed.

A humpback whale at the centre of a weeks-long rescue operation has been found dead near Denmark. 

The whale carcass was spotted on Thursday. Authorities have now confirmed it was the whale named "Timmy," previously stranded on a German sandbank in March.

Officials say the carcass does not currently pose a health risk.
