Attila Kokas works for the Berlin City Mission as a gardener and Denny Wagner is a cook. At an emergency shelter Wagner prepares food for homeless people. For a few months now, Wagner has been spending nights in a small, simple hut with no electricity.
Kokas sleeps on the street, before he makes his way to work in the early hours. Despite having jobs, both men have been unable to find an affordable apartment in Berlin.
They share their fate with quite a few people in Germany. In larger cities in particular, the housing market is tight. People with low incomes and those fleeing homelessness have been hit especially hard by the housing crisis. How can they get themselves out of this predicament?
