What to make of US canceling troop deployment to Poland

More than 4,000 US troops won’t deploy to Poland as planned. Former Pentagon official Jim Townsend joins us to unpack whether this is just logistics or a deeper shift in US strategy toward Europe.

The US  has canceled the planned deployment of more than 4,000 troops to Poland, marking a significant reduction of its military presence in Europe.

Pentagon officials say the halt affects units bound for Poland and Germany after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a brigade combat team out of Europe. An additional rocket‑artillery battalion deployment to Germany was also scrapped.

Former Pentagon official Jim Townsend weighs whether this reflects logistical adjustments or a broader strategic shift.
