Compliments activate reward systems in the brain. Studies show they boost well-being and can strengthen relationships, even in those suffering from depression.

Compliments have a stronger effect on your brain than you might think. They activate empathy and reward centers and trigger cycles that involve oxytocin and dopamine. Studies with couples show benefits for both the giver and the receiver of the compliment. Even people with depression report improved mood and relationship satisfaction.
