Why does Germany want to stop using farmland?

The Ukraine war has led to shortages on the grain market. Prices for wheat and sunflower oil are soaring. The EU Commission is now backing away from its plan to stop sowing at least 4% of Europe’s farmland from 2023 – a plan intended to promote biodiversity. The only EU member sticking to the plan is Germany.
