Sleep affects immunity, inflammation — and even Alzheimer’s risk. Researchers reveal why deep sleep is especially important for the brain and the body.

Sleep does much more than help us recover. During deep sleep, the immune system becomes more active, the brain clears waste products, and key defense cells are strengthened. Researchers are finding growing evidence that good sleep may reduce inflammation and even protect against diseases like Alzheimer’s.
