Why some wars are ignored

There are dozens of wars happening around the world — yet only a few dominate the headlines. DW looks at why some conflicts are overlooked and what news organizations can do to cover them better.

Global attention often fixates on a few major wars, leaving dozens of other deadly conflicts unseen. Limited coverage reduces public pressure and diplomacy, while proximity, newsroom biases and audience fatigue shape which crises break through. Many wars with massive casualties, like in Sudan or Tigray, remain underreported. More local, ground‑level journalism is key to making these conflicts visible and human.
