In Germany's hinterland lies a test track for the Transrapid - a levitating train once meant to revolutionize travel at speeds up to 450 km/h. Once crowded with visitors, it now stands abandoned. What went wrong?

Germany's Transrapid was once hailed as the future of high-speed travel: a magnetic levitation (maglev) train reaching over 400 km/h. Despite proven technology and global interest, the project failed to take off at home due to high infrastructure costs, competition from conventional rail like the ICE, and a fatal 2006 test track accident. Today, the abandoned site highlights how innovation can falter despite technical success.
