In Mumbai people are discovering the age-old tribal practice of wild food foraging and learning to value urban green spaces in the process.

Foraging is at the heart of an initiative to reconnect Mumbai city dwellers with nature and protect one of India'smost important urban green spaces. In the city’s shrinking Aarey Forest, residents discover edible wild plants and learn from indigenous Warli-Adivasi communities.
Led by conservationists and local experts, these walks highlight the importance of biodiversity, traditional ecological knowledge, and sustainable food systems.
This environmental activism aims to build support for preserving Aarey, often described as the world’s last surviving forest within a megacity.
