On men's quarterfinal day at Wimbledon, Roger Federer and Andy Murray booked their places in the final-four before Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka did the same in the evening. Both Federer and Murray won their respective matches against Giles Simon and Vasek Pospisil in straight sets after a number of rain delays.

The start of play was haulted by the weather before Murray on Centre Court and Federer on Court 1, began the day's play in style. Federer broke Simon early to lead 3-0 in the first set, while Murray opened up a 3-1 lead against Pospisil, before the rain came again. Around 40 minutes were lost before play resumed and Federer was able to swiftly take the first set 6-3. At the same time, Murray kept his nerve and did the same, winning 6-4. Both players looked comfortable in front of an array of stars in each crowd. Prince William and wife Kate, the main attraction in the Royal Box on Centre Court.

Simon broke Federer's serve - the first time the Swiss star has lost a service game at this year's tournament - in the second set to cause an unexpected shock. Trailing 5-4 with Federer serving for the second set, Simon won four straight points to get back on serve. But by the time the rain came again, Federer was level at 5-5 and Murray was trailing 4-3 in the second set.

A delay of half an hour led to the Centre Court roof being closed, before play resumed once again. Federer broke Simon again to win the second set 7-5 before the 17-time Grand Slam winner cruised through a 6-2 third set to clinch the win. Murray, who had secured the second set of his match 7-5, followed Federer soon after, winning the third set of his match 6-4 to confirm his final-four spot.

"Murray has done really well to come back from injury and it is always good to play against the best players," said Federer after the game. "I'm looking forward to it."

Djokovic to face Gasquet

Defending champion Novak Djokovic stormed into the Wimbledon semifinals after a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Croatian Marin Cilic on Wednesday. The world number one took just one hour and 49 minutes to book his 27th Grand Slam semifinal, and his sixth at the All England Club.

Whilst Djokovic cruised through his final-eight match, Stan Wawrinka against Richard Gasquet turned into a classic.

In what was dubbed 'The Battle of the Backhands', Wawrinka and Gasquet took their match all the way. Gasquet took the front-foot, breaking to take the opening set 6-4 - the only set Wawrinka had given up all tournament.

The French Open champion responded immediately, though, taking the second and third sets in quick succession. Wawrinka looked to be heading through without much trouble, but Gasquet had other ideas.

The Frenchman broke again and in the end, was handed the levelling fourth set 6-4, after Wawrinka double-faulted at the crucial moment. The fifth set proved to be special. Gasquet broke to lead 5-3 and served for the match, but Wawrinka responded superbly to break back immediately, before holding serve.

As the match ticked over three hours, the two players had to dig deep to find the energy needed to snatch a final-four place. No breaks came as each player held serve all the way until the score was at 10-9. Having just saved a break point, Gasquet powered past Wawrinka's serve to lead 0-40. Two Wawrinka points couldn't unsettle him, and when Wawrinka sent one long the Frenchman celebrated at making only his second ever Wimbledon semifinal.

"You need to fight in games like that, all the way. To fight and win is really important for me," said Gasquet after the match. "That was special."

The two men's semifinals will take place on Friday. The women's quarterfinal matches will take place on Thursday.
