Heligoland is Germany’s only high-sea island, located in the middle of the North Sea. Until now, islanders relied on income from tourism. But now the idyllic island is undergoing transformation: to become the world’s "first offshore service island”.

It’s meant to serve as a base for people involved in the construction and maintenance of wind farms being built just a few kilometers off the coast of Heligoland. Carmen Meyer and Grit Hofmann tell us about fascinating offshore technology and the changes taking place on the picturesque island of Heligoland.
