Winter Olympics: Canadian athlete arrested for GTA
February 24, 2018According to Canadian broadcaster CBC, the skier, 35, is alleged to have stolen a Hummer after drinking at a bar in Daegwallyeong-myeon with his wife and manager.
According to Korean Times reports, the three took the vehicle at around midnight on Friday evening, before driving to the Olympic Village.
After being alerted to the theft, police arrived to find the trio over the legal blood alcohol limit. They were released after questioning but remain under investigation. It is not known whether Duncan was the one actually driving the vehicle.
Despite the media reports, Canadian team officials refused to identify the athlete at a press conference on Saturday morning.
"We can confirm that an incident occurred involving police around midnight and early Saturday morning," said Canadian Olympic Committee CEO Chris Overholt. "We have confirmation that individuals attached to our team were involved in the investigation and they are cooperating.
We take this matter of course, very, very seriously. However, until we know the results of the investigation and we are not in a position to comment much further than that."
Canada are third in the overall rankings in Pyeongchang, with 11 gold medals, behind Norway and Germany.
