People still associate smokestacks, mines and coal dust with the Ruhr Valley. That may have been true fifty years ago, but nowadays it's no longer the case. In addition, there have been many oases of natural beauty and quiet along the Ruhr for a long time - like Hohenstein Park in Witten.
