World AIDS Day

AIDS continues to claim hundreds of thousands of lives every year. On December 1, the global community marks World AIDS Day.

AIDS stands for "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome." Triggered by the HIV virus, it weakens the immune system and can be deadly.

The UN says more than 38 million people live with HIV/AIDS, and the illness continues to claim hundreds of thousands of lives every year.
