As the World Cup 2026 approaches, protests in Vancouver, criticism of ticket prices and political tensions dominated FIFA discussions over costs, access and unity.

With the World Cup less than six weeks away, protests in Vancouver this past week have highlighted anger over rising costs and social impact. The city is preparing to host seven matches, alongside other cities in Canada, the US and Mexico.

Hotel workers say higher prices are not improving pay, and homelessness advocates warn people are being pushed out.

Ticket prices have also drawn criticism, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino defending the pricing and saying future sales will be reviewed. He confirmed Iran's participation in the tournament, along with his bid for another term in office.
