World leaders meeting in Istanbul for an international conference on Iraq and its security will be examining ways to help stabilise the country. However, the purpose of the Iraq conference has been hijacked by diplomatic efforts to avert a Turkish offensive against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq. Diplomats from the G8 countries as well as Iraq's neighbors are urging restraint on the part of Ankara in order to prevent further destabilization of Iraq.
