World's Largest Solar Park Opened

June 30, 2005

The world's largest solar park officially opened in the central Bavarian town of Mühlhausen on Thursday. The plant can produce about 6.8 million kilowatt hours per year. That's enough to supply 2,000 households with energy. The operating company has invested about 50 million euros ($60.4 million) in the park and two others that are located nearby. The plant will not be the record holder for very long: By the end of 2005, a solar park in northern Bavaria is expected to produce more than 12 million kilowatt hours per year.
