Gen Z had long been considered skeptical of religion. But in the US a new trend is emerging: young, conservative men are re-finding christian faith in their quest for meaning, values and moral orientation in an ever more chaotic world. Is a new political base forming for Donald Trump’s Republican party? Meanwhile, more liberal congregations are criticizing the increasingly blurry lines between religion and nationalism in the US. Pope Leo XIV is also distancing himself from Trump. How entangled are politics and religion in the US – and what role will that play in future elections?
