She brought toilets and clean water to her village. The locals had almost lost hope of ever seeing these facilities. Chhavi Rajawat gave up her well-paid job in business to become mayor in her grandfather's home village. 70 per cent of the Indian population live in rural areas and in frugal conditions.

Chhavi Rajawat has shown this can be changed, but faced opposition from politicians and administrators. Corruption is widespread in India. The Prime Minister wants to change that. But Chhavi Rajawat has managed to make a difference without the help of powerful men.
